Renowned British-Bangladeshi entrepreneur, media personality, and philanthropist Abdus Samad has received the Prominent Business Leader of the Year Award 2026 at the British Bangladeshi Business Awards. The prestigious ceremony took place on 25 October at Bingley Hall in বার্মিংহাম, celebrating outstanding commercial achievements and community contributions within the diaspora.
Born in Golapganj, সিলেট, Bangladesh, Abdus Samad has built a diverse career spanning business innovation, property investment, and humanitarian work. His entrepreneurial journey in লন্ডন began in 2005 when he launched Curryলন্ডন.co.uk, an early online food ordering platform that demonstrated his vision for digital innovation in the hospitality sector. He later expanded his commercial ventures into insurance-related services, vehicle hire, and property development, establishing a strong footprint across multiple industries.
Samad turned his attention toward social impact investing b a FinTech venture focused on empowering rural entrepreneurs in Bangladesh. The initiative specifically targets farmers, women, and young people, and it currently supports 351 farmers across 12 agricultural clusters with the support of 71 investors. His work with Futuredesh reflects a growing commitment to sustainable economic development and bridging financial access for marginalized communities.
Alongside his commercial success, Samad has maintained a strong dedication to social responsibility and community support in both the UK and Bangladesh. During the winter of 2022, he played a crucial role in operating a community kitchen initiative in লন্ডন’s Regent’s Park Estate. In collaboration with Camden Council and local partners, the initiative provided around 500 meals a day to families struggling with the rising cost of living. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his foundation provided essential food assistance to more than 1,000 families across Bangladesh, while his relief efforts also extended to supporting victims and first responders following the Grenfell Tower fire.
Through his leadership within Golapganj Helping Hands UK, Samad helped raise £60,000 to construct 12 permanent homes for disadvantaged families. His ongoing community leadership includes serving as Chairperson of the Bengali Workers Association and as a Director of West Euston Project Ltd, where he contributes to skills development, local education, and social welfare programs. The Prominent Business Leader of the Year Award 2026 recognises his multifaceted contributions to entrepreneurship, community leadership, and his dedication to strengthening the bond between the British Bangladeshi community and Bangladesh.
